Careers

Careers Education is organised by the Life Skills Faculty and appropriate agencies. The Careers Department within the Life Skills Faculty comprises of Head of Faculty and a Work Related Learning Manager.

A specialist Personal Adviser from the Connexions Service works in the school with students for most of the week and is happy to meet parents. All students are entitled to a one-to-one interview with the Personal Adviser who will produce a careers Action Plan for each student.

The department has two offices, one which is dedicated to the Work Related Learning Manager and the other to the Head of Faculty and the Connexions Personal Adviser. Specialist equipment and interactive multimedia resources are available. The Careers Education Programme is delivered through PSHE in years 7-10 and deals with issues related to making choices, equality of opportunity and ‘options’. In year 11 students are provided with modules of careers education which deals with matters relating progression beyond the statutory school leaving age including post-16 options such as continuing education, employment and training.

All students are entitled to one week work experience during year 11 and this is co-ordinated by the Work Related Learning Manager and managed by Enterprising St Helens.

Guidance continues into the Sixth Form and specific evening presentations are given for students and parents to explain progression to Higher Education including Oxbridge.
