Year 7 and Year 9 summer examinations

Please find the examination timetables for Year 9 and Year 7 LP3 assessments. Unlike the previous assessments we have decided to co-ordinate and then publish to parents when your son/daughter will sit their summer examination.
It should be noted that all assessments are cumulative and therefore based potentially on anything that your son/daughter has studied during this academic year. These examinations will therefore ‘test’ everything that your son/daughter has studied during this academic year to date and will be sat in class under exam conditions.

During the examination students will complete past paper questions under timed conditions in each of their GCSE level courses for Year 9 or will be based on a substantive piece of work in their subject from which a teacher is able to give a Rainhill level for Year 7 (as published on the school website via Parent Zone – Information – Curriculum Levels). The benefit is twofold, the teacher is able to gauge the impact of their teaching and what support is needed to enable your son/daughter to make progress in the subject and secondly that your/son daughter gets vital practice in examination technique before the real thing. The assessment for BTEC/OCR courses or practical or performance GCSE’s will include an element of coursework or a performance piece and will occur during the same week.

It is vital, therefore, that your son/daughter takes these examinations seriously and prepares well for them. For example, in the lead up to the examinations your son/daughter should be completing approximately 2 – 3 hours of independent revision per day. It is also important that, as their parent/guardian, you stress the importance of the examinations and work supportively with the school to best enable your son/daughter to prepare sufficiently for them. Your son/daughter should be very clear about what is being examined from their class teacher. Indeed for each Year group the subject content of what is being studied at each half-term is published via the school website (Parent Zone – Information – HT Overviews 2015).

I have asked all teaching staff to set revision homework for the next few weeks until the examinations have been sat which your son/daughter should record in their planner.

I trust that you find this information useful and that we are able to best work together to ensure that your son/daughter continues to make progress in all the subjects they are studying.
