Rainhill High School Council
"I believe that School Councils are effective as they take on board student voice and have the potential to provide a better learning environment for the School's pupils. Here at Rainhill, our School Council is a very important part of school development as it is organised and pro-active. This year our council has 49 members spread across all years, we meet on a regular basis so we keep up to date with new innovative ideas that the students have thought of. Our School Council has off-shoot teams to focus on areas that need a lot more attention than the allotted time at the main meetings; our off-shoot teams are 'The Toilet Project', 'Behaviour', 'School Council Budget', 'The Environmental Team' and 'The Healthy Schools Team'. We have found that these off-shoot teams have been very successful :-
- 'The Healthy Schools Team' have met up with the canteen manager to discuss what meals could be made that the student's like whilst maintaining a balance of nutrition.
- 'The Toilet Project' members have gone out to different schools and establishments to inspect their facilities and have started to create plans for the upcoming refurbishment.
- The 'Behaviour' Team have discussed ways to improve behaviour and how to inspire students to achieve by offering different rewards.
- The 'School Council Budget Team' have started to think about what we can spend the budget on this year and are going to issue questionnaires to students about what they would like to spend the money on.
- 'The Environmental Team' have started to think about what can be done to reduce the School's Carbon Footprint.

The School Council is taken very seriously at Rainhill High School and backing from the Senior Leadership Team has been vital. These measures have been put into place so that pupils here at Rainhill believe that student voice is heard. It is only when students believe their opinions are taken seriously that we can move forward as a School"
